We are that which makes us happy.

The whole DJing idea is put back on back burner. I decided to go back to school to take my graphic design skills to the next level. I have a degree in Computer Information Systems and I’m going back to get a degree in Fine Arts with the concentration in Graphic Design. This is the direction I should have made 15 to 20 years ago but with a mix of unfounded insecurity and mistaken interests I got into systems. Now, even though it pays well, I’m stuck in a job I hate with no chance for advancement. I been looking for other opportunities in ITS but the industry is freaking nuts; employers have unrealistic expectations and or paying way less than what I’m currently making.

Now, graphic design: that’s my jam, I just need to train my hand. With my technological knowledge, I could also get back into web design. I built websites 10+ years ago but burnout came quick I think because, well, hard to explain. For starters, I didn’t use the best tools.

Who knows, maybe at some point I’ll actually give this website a nice look.

Beyond web design, the beauty of classical training, as opposed to vocational training, is I won’t be locked into one thing: If someone wants a logo, I’m their guy. If someone is wanting a custom graphic like a company mascot or something, I’m on it. And, just for fun, if people need another hand to paint a mural (which is a pretty big locally lately) I’m in!

The problem I ran into is as it turns out I’m not the logical type; I’m, in my heart, the creative type. After over a year of searching, it took me 20 years to realize this. I always knew I had an artistic side but now I realize that is who I actually am. We are that which makes us happy.
